Serge Lemoyne died July 12, 1998. He was then working on the piece he intended to present at the Biennale. It will remain unfinished. We therefore present the last series of paintings of Serge Lemoyne, entitled Black Holes. Ironically, his death has left a great black hole. This multidisciplinary artist has left an indelible imprint on quebec society through a career that spanned more than thirty years.

Serge Lemoyne developed his work in the wake of a popular culture from which he extracted the quintessential spirit and the highest expression. His painting, seemingly unbridled, is cunningly structured. This passionate, muddleheaded man had an eye. And this, for an artist, is essential.
